glock 19 barrel size

Glock 19 Barrel Size - We often hear the word "revolutionary" associated with new products in the firearms world. However, the number of guns that make a difference in the gun industry is very small.

When Glock introduced the G17, it really changed everything we knew about firearms. The company soon followed with its little brother, the Glock 19. There are subtle (and not so subtle) differences between the two guns. In this post, we'll take a look at them and see how they stack up.

Gaston Glock designed the Glock Model 17 in the early 80's to be a new 9mm Austrian military service pistol. It wasn't the first production gun to use a polymer frame (that honor goes to the H&K VP70), and it wasn't the first to use a striker action. The genius of the Glock 17 was how it took those elements and combined them into a simple, easy-to-use and accurate pistol.

The Model 19 was the third pistol produced by Glock. (The Model 18 is a version of the Model 17 designed for an Austrian counter-terrorist unit with a fully automatic fire option). It takes all the functions and features of the Glock 17 and is slightly smaller, making for a compact pistol that's easy to carry.

As we mentioned, Glock originally designed the Model 17l for the Austrian military. As such, it was designed to be worn by soldiers in the field. Its precision, bendability, and light weight make it attractive to people. But many shooters wanted a slightly smaller gun.

Over the years, Glock has updated the design of its guns. They have added features like an enhanced grip and finger grooves for better grip, as well as adjustable straps on the back to fit your hand better. In the latest Gen 5 models, they changed the interior quite a bit. For our comparison, we look at the Gen 4 Model 17 and Model 19. Both have proven to be consistent, reliable performers in civilian, military, and law enforcement applications.

In your hands, there are some differences between the Glock 17 and the Glock 19. The guns feel similar, although the Model 19 has a slightly shorter grip.

Two guns of the same diameter (1.26 inches) and the same distance from the rear of the slide to the ejection port. Both the Gen 4 Model 17 and Model 19 have back straps, although the Model 17's back straps do not match the Model 19's, and vice versa. The Glock 19 in our photos is my Model 19. It has a slight extension at the top of the rear grip and slide, which is different from what the Model 17 uses.

The height of these two pistols is different. A standard Glock 17 magazine holds 17 rounds, while a standard Glock 19 magazine holds 15 rounds. At 5.47 inches, the Model 17 has a frame less than half an inch taller than the Model 19's 5.04 inches. The Model 17 weighs 32.3 ounces unloaded. The smaller 19 model weighs 23.6 ounces.

Barrel and slide length is where we see the biggest difference between the Glock 17 and Glock 19. The Gen 4 Model 17 has a slide length of 7.32 inches and a barrel length of 4.49 inches. The Glock 19 has a slide length of 6.85 inches and a barrel length of 4.02 inches.

Because of the different barrel and slide lengths, the recoil springs are not interchangeable between the two. However, all fire control points on the frame can be changed between the two guns.

We tested the Glock 17 and Glock 19 for accuracy using three commonly available brands of 9mm ammunition:

Both guns were fired at targets 15 yards away. We measured average velocity and average group size using a Prochrono digital chronograph set just above the barrel of each pistol. During testing, the temperature was 85 degrees and the humidity was 85 percent.

The heavier Glock 17 made it seem more manageable under recoil than the Glock 19. However, both pistols turned in excellent results in our accuracy tests. The longer barrel of the Glock 17 still allows more powder to burn inside the cartridge when the barrel is fired. This resulted in a slightly higher muzzle velocity on the Glock 17 versus the Glock 19.

Since the Glock 17 debuted in the military, it has found a home in the arsenal of law enforcement officers around the world. Weighing only two pounds, it revolutionized what a service rifle could be.

However, the Glock 17 was never designed to be concealed. The tall frame of the Model 17 means that the butt of the pistol extends slightly below the concealed holster. This makes it difficult to hide. In recent years, however, the increase in popularity of the appendix inside the waistband for carry (AIWB) has increased interest in using the Glock 17 as a concealed handgun. Long, long guns are comfortable to carry around.

With 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition in its magazine, four inches, a good trigger, and compact size, the Glock 19 is one of the best pistols around for concealed carry. It's easy to conceal on your hip, has an impressive array of available tools, and has a reputation for reliability unmatched by many other pistols on the market.

However, the two extra rounds in the Glock 17 give it a slight edge in firepower over the Glock 19. The Glock 17's slightly longer slide (and therefore longer sight radius) gives the Glock 17 the edge. Less accurate.

It all depends on what you want. If you need a pistol to protect your home, you'll be hard pressed to find anything better than the Glock 17. This is a gun that performs well in competitive shooting. For everyday concealed carry, practice and training, the Glock 19 is pretty much the standard by which all other 9mm compact pistols are judged. Either way, you'll end up with a reliable, accurate pistol that's been the market leader for decades.

This effect balances the weight deviation and allows reliable operation even with heavy or long barrels.
